Using Weekly Videos to Strengthen The Orchard School’s Community

Remote learning and social distancing aren’t concepts that feel synonymous with Progressive education at The Orchard School. For nearly a century, Orchard has thrived as a premier private school where hands-on experiential learning opportunities are boundless. And our teachers enjoy learning and leading alongside their students.

So, yes, our model looks different during these times, but our ability to adapt and learn will not. Orchard’s faculty and staff are working hard every day to maintain a learning journey that’s joyful, interactive, and aligns with our mission to develop and educate the whole child.

These short weekly videos highlight that when a challenge presents itself, an opportunity always awaits. And this opportunity to innovate while supporting the greater good will provide positive learning moments for everyone during this new (temporary) chapter.

Here are some of the highlights from our first two weeks of remote learning:

– We’ve had a community digital dance party with nearly 200 people
– Watched amazing STEM projects come alive from lots of living rooms
– Teachers have held morning meetings with stuffed animals
– Parents have dusted off their old instruments to join in during orchestra class
– At the end of each day, Orchard families in the neighborhood ring the bell tower to close out the school day

These videos give parents, students, and faculty & staff the comfort in knowing that even though we are working remotely, as a community–we are all in this together!
