Preserving Community Connection During e-Learning

While e-learning keeps the curriculum going, much of the life of a school happens in the time and spaces around classes. University High School of Indiana has continued its focus on community in this disruptive time. Virtual clubs and gathering spaces allow students and faculty to meaningfully interact outside of class. An anti-racist book club and film club both meet digitally in real-time; yoga happens weekly, and the 1:1 mentoring program continues to bring students and faculty together.

The student government even created a Discord server so students could sit around virtual lunch tables to talk. With each of these, the school preserves the sense of community it has worked to cultivate.
