Palisades Episcopal School Shifts to Student-Centered Scheduling

Palisades Episcopal School (PES) is thrilled to share the adoption of a new school-wide schedule beginning this 2022-2023 school year called Student-Centered Scheduling. Student-Centered Scheduling incorporates the needs of a 21st century student and considers the biorhythms of our children, adjusting the times of day our students participate in a given subject/class. For instance, if a student has math at 8:00 a.m.
each day but is not a fan of math or mornings, this schedule could put him or her at a disadvantage. In addition, Student-Centered Scheduling optimizes the amount of overall instruction for any given class. In a traditional schedule model, for example, a child who has Art at 1:00 p.m. on Fridays would miss more class periods in a school year than the child with Art on Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. due to several ½ days scheduled on Fridays. Student-Centered Scheduling rotates, maximizing class time and ensuring given classes are not disproportionately missed. Here are some additional highlights of PES’ new scheduling format:
–All grades operate on a 6-day rotating schedule. Schedules for Tuesdays and Thursdays remain static while Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays rotate through ABCD days.
–ABCD days will NOT be designated on days where there is no school.
–The ABCD calendar will remain as designated, even on unscheduled days off of school (i.e. inclement weather days).

PES families, faculty and students have all joined us in our excitement as we continue to do what is best for our students while living out our mission of challenging students’ minds, bodies and spirits.
