Once we knew we were committed to remote learning for the long haul, we had concerns about community connectedness and burnout. We knew we had to get creative with our approach to learning. Our solution was the Sixth Day Challenge.
On every sixth day of school we take a break from regular classes and set out for a new school-wide challenge. The challenge is presented in the morning and students have the day to complete them. The challenges are limited by time as well–no challenge should take more than two hours, with most around one hour. The challenges range from photoshoots with themes like “Renaissance” (of course!) to creating a recipe for a school cookbook. The students have been enthusiastic about the challenges and the faculty appreciate the break as well. It gives everyone a moment in their week where something unpredictable and fun happens.
